R&D Engineer
As an R&D Engineer at ABN Cleanroom Technology, you will build, commission, and test prototypes and test setups. You will translate technical concepts into working systems and help demonstrably improve the performance of our CTO+ building blocks. You combine practical knowledge of refrigeration and control engineering with a hands-on approach. You will work closely with the R&D Manager and coordinate with the Automation team where necessary.
About the Job
As an R&D Engineer, you will report to the R&D Manager. Your primary task is the construction, commissioning, and testing of prototypes and test setups. You will translate technical concepts into working systems and help demonstrably improve their performance.
You bring practical knowledge of refrigeration and control engineering and contribute to the control and automation of our prototypes. You will work closely with the R&D Manager and coordinate with the Automation team where necessary. Depending on your experience, you will also take on defined design and improvement projects.
Construction and Commissioning
- Building prototypes and test setups with ventilation, refrigeration, and electromechanical components.
- Connecting sensors, actuators, and measuring equipment and verifying their operation.
- Commissioning systems, troubleshooting faults, and improving practical implementation.
- Handling the pre-assembly and assembly of prototypes and zero-series products, if necessary.
- This primarily takes place at ABN, but may occasionally occur at a client's site, either domestically or abroad.
Testing and Control Engineering
- Establishing test protocols together with the R&D Manager.
- Performing measurements of airflow, pressure, temperature, humidity, energy consumption and, where relevant, noise and particle concentrations.
- Investigating the operation of control loops and assisting in the development and adjustment of controls for fans, pumps, valves, and refrigeration components.
- Analyzing performance, stability, and dynamic behavior through data logging.
- Documenting test conditions, measurement results, and points for improvement in a reproducible manner.
Product Improvement and Practical Experience
- Translating test findings into concrete improvements for the CTO+ building blocks, with a focus on manufacturability, maintainability, and repeatability.
- Supporting the installation, maintenance, or repair of developed products and building blocks at the client's site, from a project or service perspective.
- Collaborating with engineering, automation, service, and validation teams.
- Occasionally participating in service and project assignments and bringing that practical experience back to product development. R&D remains your primary responsibility.
Skills & Qualifications
We are looking for a practically-minded technical colleague who enjoys building, measuring, and understanding how a system behaves in practice.
- You hold a bachelor's degree in electromechanics, energy technology, refrigeration, automation, or a related field, or have equivalent relevant experience.
- You have practical knowledge of refrigeration and control engineering and understand the relationship between components, sensors, and controls.
- You can read technical diagrams and drawings and independently build, commission, and investigate a setup.
- You have experience with measuring equipment and analyzing technical data.
- You work carefully and methodically, take initiative, and communicate clearly about results and problems.
- You communicate professionally in Dutch and English.
Experience with PLC programming, data logging, ventilation technology, or prototyping is a strong asset. Knowledge of SolidWorks, cleanroom technology, or relevant quality standards is a plus.
